3D stylized character — Meet Somi! Last year, I decided to start modeling this stylized character because of my desire to explore new areas of 3d design. I wanted to create a character that embodies simplicity and at the same time was cute, experiment with different textures, and create animations.

The Concept
Every project starts with an idea. I wanted to convey the friendliness of the character with simple rounded shapes.

The process starts with simple blocking, which gradually becomes more complicated. When sculpting, special attention is paid to his head. When the base is ready, the next step is retopology. It has edge loops, that will work well when animating.

Texturing was very exciting, I wanted to convey a cartoon style in textures with a little realism. Rigging, skinning, animation were created in Blender. A custom rigging with custom shapes has been created for the character.
The key to creating a stylized 3D character is rendering. Here, Blender 3D provides ample opportunities for experimenting with light. For the character, I choose soft lighting and warm colors to emphasize the cartoon style. The rendering makes the character even more visually appealing and ready to be included in an animated scene.
